• This ceramic pot has been thrown on my wheel, burnished and partly glazed with different glazes and copper carbonate. I have also added gold lustre.

• My work is bought a lot as a special gift for friends and also look good in a classy interior.

• Height- 17cm

• Width- 17cm( at widest part).

• Inspiration for this piece comes from the beautiful images seen from space looking into our incredible Universe.

• After the first firing a gold lustre was painted on certain parts of the glaze and again this was put back into the kiln and fired on.

• After the second kiln firing I then took it outside and covered it with sawdust and wood shavings for the smoke or pit firing. This was then set alight and left to burn overnight.
Sometimes I add salt or copper carbonate
to encourage different colours and textures.

I love the markings that the smoke firing produces on the surface of the pot.
I like the contrast from the precisely made form, the carefully considered glaze painting
and then the freedom of the outside firing. I have to let go of any control over the markings now and let the the wild outside firing work it’s magic.

I love to mix up various different firing techniques to produce the overall effect I have always sought after.

A bit of a metaphor for remembering to let go in life and not always want total control!

Each section of the pot is different so can be turned to see a different view.

• Lastly it was cleaned, sanded and polished with beeswax.

I am a studio potter working in Leamington Spa UK and exhibit my work extensively.
